Studio moves 'One Shot' up to Dec. 21 opening
Paramount will unwrap Nickelodeon Movies’ “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” in time for Christmas Day 2013 moviegoing.
The studio made the dating announcement Tuesday, along with a couple other holiday shuffles: Tom Cruise actioner “One Shot,” previously dated for Feb. 8, 2013, bumps up to Dec. 21, 2012, and takes the place of Brad Pitt futuristic pic “World War Z,” which moves back to June 21, 2013.
“Turtles,” what will be a $100 million live action-CGI hybrid from producer Michael Bay and director Jonathan Liebesman, lands the coveted Christmas Day slot, targeting four-quadrant holiday moviegoing.
Par’s “One Shot” looks to repeat last year’s success of a Cruise action film, “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol,” which grossed nearly $700 million at the global box office.
“World War Z,” meanwhile, still should benefit from its summer berth — a proven time for action tentpoles.
