Par sets Sierra/Affinity for ‘Flight’ rights

Company to rep pic's distribution in select international territories

Paramount Pictures has selected Sierra/Affinity to represent the distribution rights to its Denzel Washington actioner “Flight” internationally in select territories.

The sales-financing company disclosed at AFM that it has recently completed agreements for Paramount in Germany and German-speaking Switzerland with StudioCanal, and in Spain and Spanish speaking Andorra with Tri Pictures.

“Flight” opened in the United States on Friday.

Sierra/Affinity will also be representing rights to Paramount’s upcoming “Pain and Gain” in Spain and CIS, including Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia, The Baltics and Caucasus Region. The action-comedy, directed by Michael Bay and starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson, opens in the U.S. on April 26.

The agreements are out of the ordinary for a major studio, which has its own international distribution operation.

“The engagement of Sierra/Affinity by Paramount exemplifies the continued importance of the global marketplace to a film’s success and a focus on putting the most appropriate resources in place to maximize returns,” Sierra/Affinity said.
