Par’s ‘Bastards’ comes into focus for Sher

DP to make helming debut on Montecito-produced laffer

After serving as the director of photography for some of the biz’s most prominent comedy helmers, cinematographer Lawrence Sher has been brought on to develop Paramount’s laffer “Bastards,” which he would direct if the film is given a greenlight.

Pic follows two brothers, who, after finding out that their father isn’t their biological one, go on a road trip to find their real dad.

Paramount had no comment.

Justin Malen penned the script and Ivan Reitman will produce through his Montecito Pictures banner along with Chris Cowles.

Sher, who signed with WME less than a year ago, has DP credits including comedies “Kissing Jessica Stein,” “Dan in Real Life,” “I Love You, Man” and “Paul.” He has worked closely with Todd Phillips recently, serving as cinematographer on both “Hangover” pics and “Due Date.”

Sher drew Paramount’s attention as a helmer after he shot “The Dictator.”

Malen is repped by Verve and H2F Entertainment.
