Palestinian prime minister to appear at TIFF

Fayyad's appearance in conjunction with 'State 194' screening

Salam Fayyad, prime minister of the Palestinian National Authority, has been set to appear at the Toronto Film Festival in conjunction with the screening of Dan Setton’s documentary “State 194.”

The docu follows the Palestinian leader’s efforts to gain United Nations recognition for the Palestinian territories as the 194th independent state. The film’s official screening has been set for Sept. 10.

Production company Participant Media announced Tuesday that Fayyad would speak at a Sept. 11 news conference along with Setton, producer Elise Pearlstein and reps of the Parents Circle Families Forum — a group promoting reconciliation between Israel and the Palestinians.

Setton was given access to the Palestinian leadership in assembling the doc. Participant topper Jeff Skoll is an exec producer.
