Open Road Films is in final negotiations to acquire David Ayer’s police pic “End of Watch,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena.
Distrib made the strongest offer after a Wednesday night screening impressed buyers and garnered multiple bids. CAA is repping domestic sales, while Exclusive Media, which co-financed the film with Emmett/Furla, will handle interntational. Open Road plans a 2012 release and is committed to a significant P&A spend.
Ayer, who wrote “Training Day” and the screenplay for “The Fast and the Furious,” also wrote “Watch,” the story of two longtime LAPD partners confronting marriage, love, fatherhood and the harsh realities of the Los Angeles streets. Anna Kendrick and Natalie Martinez play the officers’ respective love interests.
Ayer and John Lesher produced through Ayer’s Crave Films and Lesher’s Le Grisbi Prods, while Gyllenhaal exec produced.
