Online Critics laud ‘Tree of Life’

Malick film takes seven awards, including best pic, helmer, supporting actress

The Online Film Critics Society tapped Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life” as its best picture of the year, the org announced Monday.

The film led the pack with seven awards including best director and best supporting actress for Jessica Chastain. Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezski, who has swept virtually every critics award since November for his work on the film, also earned a trophy.

Tree of Life” was the only film to win multiple awards from the OFSC this year.

Other notable victories were Michael Fassbender, who earned a lead actor nod for “Shame”; lead actress Tilda Swinton for “We Need to Talk About Kevin”‘ and supporting actor Christopher Plummer for “Beginners.”

“Midnight in Paris” was the top choice in the original screenplay category, while “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” won for adapted screenplay.

The group named “Rango” its favorite in the animated film category.
