‘Not Fade Away’ to open Austin

Helmer David Chase expected to attend

David Chase’s “Not Fade Away” has been tapped as the opening night film for the 19th annual Austin Film Festival on Oct. 18.

Chase is expected to attend. Paramount has set a Dec. 21 release date for the drama, in which a group of 1960s suburban youths start a rock band much to the chagrin of their parents.

The festival’s lineup includes the previously announced centerpiece film “Flight”; David O. Russell’s “Silver Linings Playbook,” which won the Audience Award at the Toronto Film Festival; “The Sessions”; Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut “Quartet”; “The Sapphires”; “Shadow Dancer,” starring Clive Owen; and Edward Burns’ “The Fitzgerald Family Christmas,” with Burns in attendance.

The festival, which runs until Oct. 25, will host more than 180 screenings, including world premieres of “Spinning Plates,” “To Kill a Memory,” “The Rep,” “Ex-Girlfriends” and “Mar Del Plata.”
