LONDON – Two high-profile local pics top the box office in Norway and Denmark, and Nordisk Film is the happy distrib.“Kon-Tiki,” a dramatization of explorer Thor Heyerdahl’s journey on a raft from South America to the Polynesian Islands, is on course to be the biggest Norwegian film of the year. After its third weekend, it has pulled in 551,000 admissions and grossed $8.82 million from 118 screens — no small feat in a country of fewer than 5 million. The pic is Norway’s most expensive feature ever, with a $16.1 million budget, and was produced by Aage Aaberge for Nordisk, which distributes the pic across Scandinavia; and Jeremy Thomas of the Recorded Picture Co., whose sales arm, HanWay Films, is handling international sales. Meanwhile in Denmark, Susanne Bier’s romantic comedy “Love Is All You Need,” another Nordisk release, became the helmer’s biggest opener on home soil, with 101,000 admissions from 114 screens over its first weekend. It tops the charts with a $1.2 million gross. Pic, which was produced by Sisse Graum Jorgensen and Vibeke Windelov for Zentropa, is being repped internationally by TrustNordisk. Looking to cross borders, both films made their cases to the festival crowd recently: “Kon-Tiki” was a special presentation in Toronto, while “Love Is All You Need” bowed during Venice.
