NonStop nabs Sundance features

Pickups include 'Southern Wild,' 'Sugar Man'

LONDON — Stockholm-based distrib NonStop Entertainment has acquired Scandinavian and Baltic rights to a slew of features that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, including top prizewinners “Beasts of the Southern Wild” and “Searching for Sugar Man.”

Scandinavia is a key territory for edgy low-budget indie fare. The 2010 Grand Prize winner “Winter’s Bone,” released by NonStop, grossed more in Scandi than anywhere else outside North America.

“Beasts of the Southern Wild,” directed by Behn Zehlin, won the Grand Jury Prize and best cinematography award at Sundance. It was sold by eOne.

NonStop also acquired Special Jury Prize and Audience Award-winning doc “Searching for Sugar Man” by Malik Bendjelloul, Bart Layton’s doc “The Imposter” and Lynn Shelton’s drama “Your Sister’s Sister” from Protagonist Pictures.

It picked up Craig Zobel’s “Compliance” from Memento Films Sales, as well as pre-buying Laurent Cantet’s “Foxfire,” which is in post-production, and Agnes Jaoui’s “Under the Rainbow,” which will shoot later this year.

It also acquired the doc “Bill Cunningham New York” from Submarine, and Matt Ross’s drama “28 Hotel Rooms” from Elle Driver.

NonStop previously announced the acquisition of Julie Delpy’s “2 Days in New York,” which also premiered at Sundance.
