News Corp. noms two new board members

Elaine Chao, Alvaro Uribe to replace Knight and Morton

News Corp. has named former U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao and former President of Colombia Alvaro Uribe to its slate of board nominees standing for election at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting in October.

They will replace retiring directors Andrew Knight and John Thornton. Arthur Siskind will become director emeritus, attending board meetings but no longer voting. He will remain senior advisor to chairman-CEO Rupert Murdoch.

Chao served as the Secretary of Labor from 2001 to 2009. Previously, she served as the CEO of United Way of America, director of the Peace Corps and deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Uribe served two terms as the President of Colombia from 2002 to 2010. Prior to that, he served as Senator of Colombia and Governor of Antioquia.
