Animated imagery crafted by Peter Jackson's Weta Digital

Universal Pictures will unveil its new logo alongside Friday’s bow of “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax.”

Universal commissioned an updated animated logo to coincide with its yearlong celebration of the studio’s centennial.

The graphic retains U’s traditional globe image with an emphasis points of bright light across the continents. It also reflects the recent change in ownership at the studio with the addition of “A Comcast Company” along the bottom.

The animation was done by artists at Peter Jackson’s Weta Digital vfx shop in New Zealand, and was inspired in part by satellite imagery looking down on Earth from space.

To complement the new visuals, film composer Brian Tyler wrote a new arrangement of the Jerry Goldsmith score that has accompanied the U logo since 1997.

The new rendition marks the seventh incarnation of the studio’s official logo since Carl Laemmle launched the company in 1912.

The new logo “reflects our future while honoring our past,” said Ron Meyer, Universal Studios prexy and chief operating officer.
