New Line has acquired an untitled pitch from Atlas Entertainment and is developing a script based on the life of famed Miami nightclub owner Chris Paciello.
Emmy-winning scribe Adam Mazer is penning the original screenplay for producers Charles Roven, William Green and Richard Suckle for Atlas. The company’s Andy Horwitz will co-produce.
Known as the “King of Miami” in the 1990’s, the charismatic Paciello turned South Beach into one of the hottest party destinations in the world before serving time in 2000 for his role in a Long Island robbery-turned-murder. Paciello, who reportedly had Mafia ties in New York, was rumored to date the likes of Madonna and Sofia Vergara during his heyday as owner of Miami hot spot Liquid.
Roven, founder of Atlas Entertainment, recently produced “The Dark Knight” for Warner Bros. and is reteaming with Christopher Nolan on “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Man of Steel.”
New Line execs Richard Brener and Walter Hamada are overseeing production for the company.
Mazer recently won an Emmy for HBO’s Al Pacino mini “You Don’t Know Jack” and penned the upcoming feature “Empire State,” starring Dwayne Johnson and Liam Hemsworth.
Mazer is repped by ICM and Inphenate.
