Naomi Watts honored by Palm Springs Film Fest

Thesp recognized for work in 'The Impossible'

Naomi Watts will receive Palm Springs Film Festival’s Desert Palm Achievement Actress Award.

Commenting on the tribute, fest chairman Harold Matzner said Watt’s work in “The Impossible,” also starring Ewan McGregor and based on the true story of a family caught in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, is “a performance worthy of an Oscar nomination.”

Past Desert Palm Achievement Award recipients include Halle Berry, Marion Cotillard, Natalie Portman and Kate Winslet.

The honor will be presented at the fest’s awards gala on Jan. 5. The festival, celebrating its 24th year, runs Jan. 3-14.
