Festival sets slate and award winners
Nancy Meyers is on tap to receive the annual screenwriters tribute from the Nantucket Film Festival, which opens in June with a screening of Fox Searchlight’s Sundance buzzmagnet “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”
Slate for the 17th annual Nantucket fest, running June 20-24, also includes IFC’s “Sleepwalk with Me” as its centerpiece pic and “Your Sister’s Sister,” the IFC film currently part of the Tribeca Film Festival lineup, in the closing slot. Disney-Pixar’s “Brave” also will screen as part of the fest.
Another film in the festival, doc “Ethel,” will score the fest’s docu storytelling award for filmmaker Rory Kennedy, whose movie recounts the bio of her mother, Ethel Kennedy. Meanwhile, the screenwriters of “Beasts,” Lucy Alibar and Behn Zeitlin, will take home the New Voices in Screenwriting kudo.
Scribe-helmer Meyers will receive Nantucket’s screenwriter tribute from Diane Keaton, who’s appeared in Meyers films including “Something’s Gotta Give” and “It’s Complicated.”
Other films on the Nantucket lineup include “Chicken with Plums,” “Future Weather,” “The List,” “Searching for Sugarman” and “Take This Waltz” — all also on the current Tribeca slate — as well as other vets of the festival circuit including “Robot and Frank” and “Queen of Versailles.”
