MPSE to fete Roesch for career achievement

Sound vet is first Foley artist to receive the laurel

The Motion Picture Sound Editors will fete vet Foley artist John Roesch with its 2013 Career Achievement Award. He is the first Foley artist to be honored with the award.

In a career spanning over three decades, Roesch has contributed to over 400 films, including the Dark Knight Rises, The Matrix Trilogy, and Inception.

The two-time Golden Reel Award winner has worked on 16 films that have won Oscars for Best Sound or Best Sound Editing.

MPSE prexy Bobbi Banks said that “John’s art is so subtle that movie-goers may not recognize it, and yet it is an essential element in creating the environment, atmosphere and mood of films. Even after 30 years, he continues to innovate and push the boundaries of his craft.”

The 60th MPSE Golden Reel Awards will be held Feb. 17 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel.
