Mitchell Akselrad opens ‘Gate’

Helmer set to adapt short for Wayfare

Wayfare Entertainment has tapped Mitchell Akselrad to pen the feature adaptation of short film “The Gate.”

Wayfare is financing and producing. Matt Westrup, who helmed the original short, is set to direct.

Pic revolves around the discovery of a strain of rabies thought to be responsible for a number of horrible deaths in the city of London.

Westrup will produce the pic along with the short’s original producer, Spencer Friend, and Wayfare Entertainment’s Ben Browning and Sarah Shepard.

Akselrad most recently penned “Agent,” which was picked up by New Regency. He is repped by CAA and Fourth Floor Prods.
