Fest recognizes thesp for work including 'Hitchcock'

Academy Award-winning thesp Helen Mirren will be feted with the International Star Award at the 24th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival on Jan. 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

“With more than four decades’ worth of memorable film, television and stage performances, Helen Mirren continues to be one of the most outstanding actresses of her generation,” Fest Chairman Harold Matzner said.

Mirren earned an Academy Award, Golden Globe, SAG Award and BAFTA Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in 2006′s “The Queen,” as well as Oscar noms for her roles in “The Madness of King George,” “Gosford Park” and “The Last Station.” The thesp is currently in production on “Red 2.”

Award recognizes thesp’s critical and commercial international recognition, including work in “Calendar Girls,” “The Tempest” and “Hitchcock.” Previous recipients of the International Star Award include Javier Bardem and Gary Oldman.

The fest runs Jan. 3-14.
