Millennium Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to caper comedy “The Babymakers,” which premiered last month at the SXSW Film Festival.
Millennium plans to release the pic on VOD on July 3, followed by a platform theatrical release on July 27.
Jay Chandrasekhar directed the film, based on a screenplay by Peter Gaulke and Gerry Swallow. The film stars Chandrasekhar, Olivia Munn, Paul Schneider, Aisha Tyler, Kevin Heffernan,Wood Harris, Constance Zimmer, M.C. Gainey and Nat Faxon.
Jason Blum of Blumhouse, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones of Automatik and Chandrasekhar of Duck Attack produced. Alliance Films president Charles Layton, IM Global founder and CEO Stuart Ford and Kevin Heffernan exec produced.
The film, co-financed by Alliance and IM Global, centers on Schneider’s character fearing that his marriage may fall apart and recruiting his friends to rob a sperm bank where he made a deposit years ago.
Millennium Entertainment’s Tristen Tuckfield negotiated the deal. John Sloss and Automatik’s Kavanaugh-Jones negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers. IM Global’s genre sales arm Octane is handling international rights, with Alliance distributing in Canada, the U.K. and Spain.
