'Hyde Park on the Hudson' helmer announces next project at Toronto
“Hyde Park on Hudson” helmer Roger Michell has announced his next project, the troubled-marriage drama “Le Weekend” that’s set for a November shoot in Paris.“Le Weekend” tells the story of British couple Nick (Jim Broadbent) and Meg (Lindsay Duncan) who revisit Paris decades after their honeymoon in an effort to rekindle the marriage. There, they run Nick’s old academic protégé (Jeff Goldblum), an encounter that causes the couple to re-think what their life and relationship can be. Project springs from a long-term collaboration between Michell, writer Hanif Kureishi and producer Kevin Loader. Trio’s other credits include “Venus,” “The Mother” and TV miniseries “The Buddha of Suburbia.” “In the 20 years since ‘The Buddha of Suburbia’ we have all done many other things but always circled back to each other every now and then, as we get older, if not wiser,” Michell said. “‘Le Weekend’ is part of that continuing story of interest and pleasure in each other’s work.” Embankment Films is repping worldwide sales on “Le Weekend.” Michell and Loader’s Free Range Films will produce with Le Bureau for Curzon Film Rights, Film4 and the BFI Film Fund. Pic represents an entry into film financing for Curzon, which will be financing against worldwide sales and taking an equity position. Curzon’s distribution arm Artificial Eye will handle pic’s U.K. release.
