Merriman in right for Dodgers in ’42’

Thesp joins Jackie Robinson biopic

Ryan Merriman has joined the cast of Legendary Pictures’ Jackie Robinson biopic “42” to play Dixie Walker, the Dodgers right fielder who opposes his new teammate at first but becomes his supporter.

Pic follows the story of Robinson, the first African-American to play in baseball’s major leagues.

Harrison Ford will play Branch Rickey, who signed Robinson to a minor league contract in 1945 and helped him get to the bigs two years later. Chadwick Boseman will play Robinson, as Variety first reported Dec. 9.

Brian Helegeland is writing and directing the pic, which will be produced by Legendary’s chairman/CEO Thomas Tull, and exec produced by Legendary prexy/CCO Jon Jashni. Former Disney chairman Dick Cook will also exec produce.

The APA and Untitled-repped Merriman can currently be seen on ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars.”
