Maternity on the minds at 'Girl in Progress' screening
With Mother’s Day fast approaching, maternity was very much on Eva Mendes’ radar at the May 2 screening of Pantelion’s “Girl in Progress” at the DGA.
“I’m a sucker for mother-daughter stories,” Mendes said before watching the film, in which she plays a single mom unsuccessfully juggling work, bills and a headstrong daughter played by Cierra Ramirez. “My character is the antithesis of my mother,” she said.
Director Patricia Riggen recalled that it rained every day of the 22-day shoot. “Thank God for Cierra — she’s only 16 but a total pro even though it’s her very first film,” the director said.
Riggen also cracked up the audience when she quipped, “Nobody recognized me today because I had a dress on.”
