LONDON — Mara Pictures has picked up theatrical rights for the U.K. to Venice Film Festival opener “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” and Indian gangster epic “Gangs of Wasseypur” parts 1 and 2.
The independent U.K. distributor will release helmer Anurag Kashyap’s sprawling two-part tale of mafia clans in Northern India in late 2012 and early 2013. “The Reluctant Fundamentalist,” helmed by Mira Nair, will be released next spring/summer. The film, which stars Riz Ahmed, Kate Hudson and Kiefer Sutherland, receives a gala screening as part of the 56th BFI London Film Festival onThursday. International sales for “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” are handled by K5 Intl. and “Gangs of Wasseypur” by Elle Driver.
