Fall Fest Preview 2012
At 25, Helsinki’s Love & Anarchy Intl. Film Festival, which runs runs Sept. 20-29, is showing signs of growing up.The ebullient fest founded in the late 1980s by a group of dedicated film buffs is adding on an industry sidebar for this edition. The Finnish Film Affair, running Sept. 25-27, will showcase the latest local movies to international industry pros and also provide a glimpse at works in progress. With Finland riding the Scandinavian movie wave — this year sees a record-breaking 40 local feature productions, well up from the average figure of 30 — the event is a timely one. The showcase will include Aku Louhimies’ latest film, “The Ultimate Fight,” and a yet to be titled crime drama from Blind Spot Pictures (which produced Nazis-on-the-moon sci-fi spoof, “Iron Sky”). Set within the context of a program of more than 180 movies from other Nordic territories, Russia and Estonia, the Finnish Affair will give sales agents, distributors, TV buyers and festival programmers a chance to see the best local features and docs. The new event includes an industry seminar on film sales aimed at feature producers, a works-in-progess day hosted by local audiovisual industry lobby body Favex, one-on-one meetings and evening events. Around 100 international industryites are expected to attend.
