‘Lore’ wins Stockholm’s Bronze Horse

Coming-of-age pic garners four awards; 'Beasts' earns jury award

STOCKHOLM

Australian Cate Shortland’s coming-of-ager “Lore” nabbed four prizes at the 23rd Stockholm Film Festival on Saturday including the Bronze Horse for film.

“Somersault” helmer’s sophomore pic won actress honors for novice Saskia Rosendahl, plus awards for cinematography and music. Tim Roth won for actor for his role in British helmer Rufus Norris’ “Broken.”

The jury, chaired by Peter Fonda, gave Best Debut to Benh Zeitlin’s “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” while Andrew Dominik’s “Killing Them Softly” won script honors.

Karzan Kader’s “Bekas” had the jury’s special mention for a directorial debut. Another Swedish first feature, Mikael Marcimain’s Toronto player “Call Girl,” nabbed the Silver audience award.

The Stockholm Feature Film Award went to local talent Amanda Adolfsson for her first feature “Unga Sophie Bell.” The prize, and its $750.000 purse, is intended to support up-and-coming female Swedish directors. Pic will preem at Stockholm in 2014.

Michael Winterbottom’s poignant family chronicle “Everyday” nabbed the Fipresci critics’ prize in the Open Zone section.

Rising Star award went to Nermina Lukac for her perf in Gabriella Pichler’s helming debut, “Eat Sleep Die.”
