‘Lone Ranger’ to get July 2013 release

Disney tentpole pushed back a month

Disney has moved “Lone Ranger” back a month to the Fourth of July holiday weekend next year, slotting the Johnny Depp-Armie Hammer tentpole for a July 3, 2013.

Disney made the announcement Thursday shortly after tapping Alan Horn to head its film studio. The action-adventure, directed by Gore Verbinski, will open against Uni’s “Despicable Me” sequel. Fox also announced Thursday that it will release a 3D version of Roland Emmerich’s 1996’s “Independence Day” on July 3, 2013.

Fox had been planning to open Steven Spielberg’s “Robopocalypse” on July 3, 2013, but anounced Thursday that the sci-fier had been moved it back to April 25, 2014.

Disney also moved Marvel’s “Thor 2” up a week to Nov. 8, 2013 — a date already occupied by Sony’s “One Direction” concert film. Lionsgate has slotted “Ender’s Game” for Nov. 1, 2013.
