Lombardi preps ‘Take Five’

Helmer won 2011 Venice Silver Lion for 'La-Bas'

Italo helmer Guido Lombardi, whose gritty immigration drama “La-Bas. A Criminal Education,” scooped last year’s Venice Silver Lion for first work, will make the leap into more mainstream filmmaking with “Take 5.”

Pic follows five criminals with strong personalities, who plot the heist of their lives while doing time in a Neapolitan jail. It’s set in Lombardi’s native Naples between the late 1980s and early ’90s.

Pic reunites Lombardi’s “Las-Bas” production team: Gianluca Curti’s Minerva Pictures Group, Gaetano Di Vaio’s Figli Del Bronx, and Dario Formisano’s Eskimo, with RAI Cinema on board this time. A French co-producer is being sought.

Casting, which is still being finalized, is likely to include one non-Italian thesp, either French or American.

“Take 5” is scheduled to start a six-week shoot in Naples in November.

After winning the Venice Silver Lion and Venice Critics’ Week nod last year, “Las-Bas,” about an African immigrant who becomes a drug dealer, traveled widely on the fest circuit, winning the Flash Forward nod at South Korea’s Busan Film Festival, among other plaudits.
