Home entertainment rights acquired to MGA doll brand

Lionsgate has agreed with MGA Entertainment to acquire the home entertainment distribution rights based on the Lalaloopsy dolls brand.

Lionsgate made the announcement Thursday.

The mini-major said it will serve as the exclusive distributor of Lalaloopsy product for all packaged media and digital platforms in several territories, including the U.S., Canada and the U.K. Announcement was made by Lionsgate exec VP of family entertainment Anne Parducci and MGA Entertainment CEO Isaac Larian. The dolls hit the market in 2010.

Lionsgate’s initial home entertainment feature release related to the property — “Adventures in Lalaloopsy Land: The Search for Pillow” — will launch in March.

“We have been very impressed by Lalaloopsy’s exponential growth as a brand since their launch in 2010, developing beyond the initial doll line into several additional categories such as apparel, fashion accessories, videogames and books,” Parducci said.
