Kino Lorber nabs ‘Revisionaries’

Film unit acquires rights to Scott Thurman's documentary

Kino Lorber has acquired U.S. and Canadian rights to Scott Thurman’s documentary “The Revisionaries,” which explores the power struggle inside the Texas State Board of Education.

The film premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, where it won a special jury prize for best documentary. It was also an official selection at the Dallas Film Festival, HotDocs, Seattle Film Festival and the AFI — Silverdocs Documentary Festival.

Kino Lorber will open “The Revisionaries” nationwide in early October. PBS’ “Independent Lens” will  broadcast the film in early 2013, when it will also be released on DVD and digital platforms.

The documentary highlights how public education has become the latest battleground in a new wave of cultural, religious and ideological clashes, with local Texas education board members advancing agendas of Creationism and other religious issues in public schools.

” ‘The Revisionaries’ reports from the front lines of a raging battle to defend the constitutional guarantee of the separation of church and state,” said Kino Lorber VP Elizabeth Sheldon.

Sheldon negotiated the deal with producer Daniel Chalfen of Naked Edge Films.
