Boys & Girls Club hosts event in Malibu

The idea of a fundraiser for kids in a part of the world where the median home price is well over a million dollars might seem absurd to some. But as anybody who watches “Gossip Girl” knows, children of the rich are not without their problems.

On Saturday, the well-heeled showed up in droves at a sprawling estate overlooking the ocean to support the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu, one of 4,000 similar programs across the country that are all responsible for raising their own funds, according to the org’s Kasey Earnest. Oh, and Ziggy Marley, who provided the entertainment, might have had something to do with the turnout. Guests were encouraged to dress “Malibu rasta style.”

“Scrubs'” John C. McGinley talked about the club providing a “safe house” for a son with special needs. Among those on hand who helped raise approximately $200,000 were Ron and Kelly Meyer, Laird Hamilton, Gabby Reece and Perrey Reeves.
