Szabo's 'Door' to play at Czech fest
PRAGUE — Karlovy Vary Film Fest’s 47th edition will honor Helen Mirren with its Crystal Globe for outstanding artistic achievement, officials announced Wednesday.
Actress, along with her husband, helmer and producer Taylor Hackford, will bring Istvan Szabo’s atmospheric drama “The Door” to the west Bohemian town in the Czech Republic. Szabo presided over the Karlovy Vary jury last year.
Fest, running June 29 to July 7, will also screen a tribute to veteran Czech thesp Josef Somr, including 1968’s “The Joke,” based on Milan Kundera’s dissident novel.
