Just for Laughs Film Festival unveils slate

Line-up includes Birbiglia's 'Sleepwalk'

MONTREAL — The line-up for this year’s Just for Laughs Film Festival, running in conjunction with the 30th Montreal Just for Laughs comedy fest, will include the local preem of Mike Birbiglia’s Sundance award-winner “Sleepwalk With Me.”

Pic is based on his off-Broadway, one-man-show that was inspired by his Just for Laughs show. Birbiglia will present the pic at Place des Arts July 26, three days after the fest kicks off.

The six-day fest will host the first North American screening of French helmer Alain Chabat’s “Sur la piste du Marsupilami,” which has already done well at the box office in France. The pic will open in Quebec on Aug. 10.

Fest will also have the Canadian premiere of “The Bitter Buddha,” a doc about the alternative comic Eddie Pepitone, featuring interviews with Patton Oswalt, Sarah Silverman and Marc Maron. The film recently had its North American preem at Chicago’s Just for Laughs fest.

Line-up includes Neil Berkeley’s “Beauty is Embarrassing,” a doc featuring Wayne White, the creator of “Pee Wee’s Playhouse.”

Fest will feature the Swedish laffer “Sound of Noise,” about a policeman whose life is thrown into turmoil when a bunch of wacked musicians hit town.

Montreal Just for Laughs runs July 12-28 with headliners Bob Saget, Lewis Black, Aziz Ansari and Kevin Hart, among many performers.
