John Cusack, who stars in Cannes competition entry “The Paperboy,” is in negotiations to star opposite Elijah Wood in “Grand Piano,” to be directed by Spaniard Eugenio Mira (“The Birthday,” “Agnosia.”).A psychological thriller, “Piano,” penned by Damien Chazelle, is being brought onto the market at Cannes by Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel’s the Solution Entertainment Group. “Grand Piano” is the latest film from Nostromo Pictures’ Adrian Guerra and Rodrigo Cortes (“Buried,” “Red Lights”). Wood limns a piano virtuoso who goes into early retirement brought on by extreme stagefright, until he’s forced back into performing. “Grand Piano” is based on a spec that Nostromo optioned from the Gersh Agency. Guerra, Cortes, Mira and Damien Chazelle, who co-wrote “The Last Exorcism 2″ with director Ed Gass-Donnelly, developed the project. Shooting starts in July in Spain and Chicago with Nostromo fully financing and the Solution handling foreign sales. Cusack is repped by Jason Heyman and Michael Cooper at CAA, Chazelle by Sandra Luchessi, Frank Wuliger at Gersh while being managed by Gary Ungar from Exile Entertainment.
