The deal was negotiated by Robert Walack, senior VP of worldwide acquisitions at Momentum parent Alliance, and Cecile Gaget, head of Gaumont Intl.
Principal photography will kick off on June 30 in Canada.
Gaget said her Cannes team has already closed pre-sales to South Korea (Daisy), Middle East (Four Stab), Benelux (Belga), India and Turkey (Tanweer), Greece (Odeon), Poland (Monolith) and the former Yugoslavia (Blitz).
“Spivet” turns on a 12-year-old boy with extraordinary skills who leaves his family in Montana and takes off on a cross-country adventure to the Smithsonian Institution to receive a prize. Newcomer Kyle Catlett will star as Spivet, Callum Keith Rennie has been cast as his father.
Penned by Jeunet and Guillaume Laurant, his co-scribe on “Amelie” and “A Very Long Engagement,” “Spivet” is produced by Jeunet’s Paris-based Tapioca Films, Epithete and Filmarto, in association with Gaumont, which will distribute in France.
