'Bad Teacher' director in negotiations for comedy
“Bad Teacher” helmer Jake Kasdan is in negotiations to direct the high-concept comedy “Sex Tape” for Sony Pictures and Escape Artists.
Kasdan’s “Bad Teacher” thesp Jason Segel is attached to star as half of a happily married couple who use a night off from their parental duties to spice up their love life by making a sex tape. When they awake the following morning, they discover the tape has gone missing, prompting them to figure out who took it and how to get it back.
Segel’s “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” helmer Nicholas Stoller was previously attached to direct before scheduling issues forced him to bow out of the project.
Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch will produce the Kate Angelo-scripted pic for Escape Artists.
“Sex Tape” is a high priority project at Sony, which paid low seven figures for Angelo’s spec script last June. Sony execs Andrea Giannetti and Adam Milano will oversee the project for the studio.
“Bad Teacher” was a modestly budgeted comedy that grossed $216 million worldwide for Sony. Kasdan is currently an exec producer on Fox’s hit series “New Girl” and he’s set to direct the network’s pilot for “Ned Fox Is My Manny.” Kasdan also recently produced Jennifer Westfeldt’s comedy “Friends With Kids.”
Kasdan is repped by WME.
