Inferno files for Chapter 11

Action comes after long dispute over 2005 feature 'Just Friends'

“Killing Them Softly” exec producer Inferno International LLC and its Inferno Distribution LLC have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, citing a need to sort out legal disputes, including a large judgment against it over the 2005 feature “Just Friends.” Filings hit U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles on Friday.

“The filings were necessary to protect the value of the companies and to restructure operations in those entities while the appeal can be decided,” the companies said.

Creditors with legal claims include the Directors Guild of America, the Screen Actors Guild, the Writers Guild of America and former partner Alan Mann, involved in the legal battle over “Just Friends.” Inferno is appealing a ruling over losses from the 2005 Ryan Reynolds rom-com.

Inferno Distribution and Inferno Intl. arrange production financing along with licensing and distributing rights to movies in international markets.

Other Inferno Intl. pics include “The Kids Are All Right” and “Killer Elite.”
