Mister Smith closes deals with foreign distribs for Pacino starrer

Key foreign markets have been sold at AFM for “Imagine,” starring Al Pacino, Jeremy Renner and Julianne Moore are taking the lead roles in “Imagine.”

Mister Smith, set up in the spring as a production-sales joint venture between David Garrett and Constantin Film – has closed deals with eOne for the U.K. and Benelux; with Roadshow Films for Australia/New Zealand; TF1 for France; Nordisk for Scandinavia; Mediapro for Eastern Europe; Imagem Filmes for Latin America; Pinoeer in the Philippines and United King for Israel.

Project had been set up at Warner Bros. but will be independently financed by Inimitable Pictures’ Nimitt Mankad and Shivani Rawat through a film fund backed by Manoj Bhargava, the founder of 5 Hour Energy.

Script by Fogelman centers on a rocker who decides to change his life after discovering a letter written to him by John Lennon — prompting him to track down his biological son, whom he’s never met. Fogelman, whose writing credits include “Tangled,” “Crazy Stupid Love” and “My Mother’s Curse,” will make his directorial debut on “Imagine.”

Denise Di Novi, Jessie Nelson and Nimitt Mankad will produce. Shivani Rawat is exec producing.

Principal photography will start in late April or early May.
