Sequel to Spanish hit releases in June

Spain’s Imagina Intl. Sales has picked up international distribution rights to “Tengo ganas de ti” (I Want You), the sequel to 2010 Spanish B.O. hit “Three Meters Above the Sky.”

Like “Meters,” “I Want You” adapts a novel by Italian scribe Federico Moccia.

Released by Warner Bros., teen romancer “Meters” became a social phenom in Spain, nabbing a standout E9.9 million ($13.1 million) B.O.

Warner releases “I Want You” in Spanish theaters June 22.

Pic reteams the producers (Antena 3 Films, Zeta Cinema, Globomedia and Cangrejo Films) and helmer (Fernando Gonzalez Molina) of “Meters.”

In the words of Zeta’s producer Francisco Ramos, “I Want You” will be “more an action movie than a romance.”

Spanish actress Clara Lago (“The End”) has joined the cast, alongside “Meters” stars Mario Casas and Maria Valverde.

At Berlin, Imagina is showing international buyers an “I Want You” trailer.
