IDC, Cinecolor Sat pact on digital distribution

Deal will revolutionize movie delivery across Latin America

Movie content delivery in Latin America is about to get faster and cheaper thanks to a landmark pact between Intl. Datacasting Corp. and Cinecolor Sat, a satellite cinema distribution system delivering content throughout Latin America.

New deal will revolutionize the digital content delivery of pics in the region. Owned and operated by Grupo Chilefilms, Cinecolor Sat will provide secure satellite delivery of movies, live sports and musical events to screens.

“Currently, 85% of theatrical content in Latin America is delivered traditionally via 35 mm prints while the rest are via hard disks,” said Cinecolor Sat project director Juan Carlos Arriagada.

Cinecolor runs facilities in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Argentina and Chile and distributes to all exhibs across the region.

New distribution platform will “not only be for Hollywood studios but also for regional 2D/3D feature films, alternative content, advertising and any digital content that might require local or regional distribution,” Arriagada said. Official launch is slated for the ShowEast film confab in Florida in November, when the service will begin to roll out.
