The Hamptons Intl. Film Festival has tapped “Searching for Sugar Man” and “Detropia” for its annual SummerDocs programming. Alec Baldwin will host post-screening talk following each event.
Sony Pictures Classic’s “Searching for Sugar Man,” set to be released July 27, follows two South African fans searching out their hero, a musician named Rodriguez whose only album initially flopped but went on to become popular in South Africa. Pic is directed by Malik Bendjelloul, who will participate in the public discussion with Baldwin.
Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady’s “Detropia,” about the fallen fate of Detroit, fill the second slot at SummerDocs. Ewing and Grady will be on hand for the discussion with Baldwin after the screening.
“Sugar Man” screens July 6 while “Detropia” is skedded for July 21 at East Hampton’s Guild Hall. The 20th annual Hamptons fest runs Oct. 4-8.
