Gucci Award for Women honors Schoonmaker

She nabs prize for editing Scorsese's 'Hugo'

Film editor Thelma Schoonmaker is the winner of the 2012 Gucci Award for Women in Cinema for her 3D editing work on Martin Scorsese’s “Hugo.”

The nominees for the second edition of the prize were costume designer Colleen Atwood; thesp Brit Marling; plus directors Nadine Labaki and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

The Gucci femmes in film nod is given in tandem with the Venice Film Festival.

Schoonmaker, who has been Martin Scorsese’s regular editor for decades, was feted in a gala at the Cipriani Hotel in Venice.

Besides film editing, Scoonmaker works to promote the films and writings of her husband, the late British film director Michael Powell.
