Gordon-Levitt’s ‘Addiction’ heading to Berlin

'Lovelace' screening in Panorama section

BERLIN — Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut, “Don Jon’s Addiction,” and Rob Epstein’s “Lovelace” will provide the Berlin Film Festival’s Panorama with high-profile explorations of troubled sexuality.

The pics are among 15 feature films and seven documentaries so far selected for the fest’s arthouse section.

Gordon-Levitt’s drama, in which “The Dark Knight Rises” actor stars along with Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore, turns on a porn-addicted young man who realizes that life has more to offer, while “Lovelace,” which stars Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard and Sharon Stone, recounts the story of late porn star turned anti-porn crusader Linda Lovelace, who shot to fame in the 1972 hardcore pic “Deep Throat.”

Also screening is Noah Baumbach’s U.S. comedy “Frances Ha.”

Latin American selections include Barbara Sarasola-Day’s “Deshora” (Belated); Maria Florencia Alvarez’s “Habi, the Foreigner”; Carlos Machado Quintela’s Cuban-Venezuelan co-production “La Piscina” (The Swimming Pool); and Ana Guevara Pose’s “Tanta Agua” (So Much Water).

Three South Korean pics also unspool, Hee-il LeeSong’s “White Night,” E J-Yong’s “Behind the Camera,” and Don-ku Lee’s “Fatal,” along with Anais Barbeau-Lavalette’s Canadian title “Inch´Allah,” Yariv Horowitz’s Israeli production “Rock the Casbah” and Lars Kraume’s German drama “My Sisters.”

Likewise showing are Zaza Rusadze’s Georgian pic “A Fold in My Blanket” and, from Belgium, Felix van Groeningen’s “The Broken Circle Breakdown.”

Screening in the Panorama Dokumente showcase are Lian Lunson’s U.S. doc “Sing Me the Songs That Say I Love You — A Concert for Kate McGarrigle,” featuring Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright, Emmylou Harris and Norah Jones; Dan Setton’s U.S.-Israeli work “State 194”; Joshua Oppenheimer’s Danish-Norwegian-U.K. title “The Act of Killing”; from Germany, Sandra Prechtel’s “Roland Klick — The Heart Is a Hungry Hunter”; Mahdi Fleifel’s U.K.-Lebanese-Danish co-production “A World Not Ours”; Su Friedrich’s U.S. title “Gut Renovation”; and Angela Christlieb’s Luxembourg-German work “Naked Opera.”

Some 50 films in all will unspool in the Panorama section, which includes the main program, Panorama Dokumente and Panorama Special.

The Berlinale runs Feb. 7-17.
