Studio to also distrib in Latin America

Fox will distribute Spanish teen comedy “Ghost Graduation” in North and Latin America.

Fox has committed to a U.S. theatrical release on the Spanish-language film.

Deal, announced Thursday at Cannes, comes less than a week after 20th Century Fox and Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment said they are co-developing an English-language remake, though with no plans for Smith to star (Variety, May 4).

Produced by Spain’s Ciskul, Think Studio, Mod Producciones (“Agora,” “Biutiful”) and Ikiru Films (“Lope “) in association with Fox Intl. Prods., “Ghost Graduation” reps an attempt to target youth auds.

Helmed by Javier Ruiz Caldera (“Spanish Movie”), “Graduation” centers on a high-school teacher with paranormal abilities who tutors a group of students through their graduation exams — despite the fact they died in a school fire 25 years earlier.

Bowing Jan. 27, “Graduation” was one of the few Spanish films to date this year to make a sizeable impact at the local box office, grossing €1.8 million ($2.3 million).
