The Tribeca Film Festival will kick off this year with Universal Pictures’ “The Five-Year Engagement,” the latest comedy from Nicholas Stoller and Jason Segel.
With a cast that includes Segel, Emily Blunt, Rhys Ifans and Chris Pratt, the comedy follows a young couple who find themselves taking the long road to the altar. Stoller and Segel, who co-wrote “The Muppets” and also worked together on “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” co-penned “Engagement” with Stoller directing.
Tribeca screening, set for April 18, comes just ahead of the film’s April 27 release. While Universal can expect to gain some promotional mileage from media coverage of the festival launch event, the fest can hope to turn heads with the preem of a high-profile comedy aimed at a broad swath of moviegoers.
The 2012 Tribeca fest runs April 18-29, with the full slate set to be announced next week.
