VFX supervisor Michael Fink, who won an Academy Award for “The Golden Compass,” has joined BUF, Pierre Buffin’ Paris-based visual effects powerhouse.
As BUF’s senior VFX supervisor, Fink will be based in Los Angeles and will be responsible for overseeing all of the shingle’s English-language productions.
Buffin and India Osborne, BUF’s managing director, said the addition of Fink comes at an “exciting time for the company.” Osborne told Variety the company has plans to open facilities in Montreal and Brussels before the end of the year.
In a career that spans more than 30 years, Fink has supervised visual effects on such pics as “Batman Returns,” “Braveheart” and “The Tree of Life.”
Fink told Variety he will work with Buffin and BUF VFX teams in all its locations, and represent BUF to Hollywood studios and producers.
With offices in Paris and Los Angeles, BUF’s work force now amounts to more than 300 employees. The Parisian facility includes B-Mac, an independent digital and photo chemical lab, as well as Angele Fine Prods., an inhouse production banner, which accessed the international tax rebate for Kenneth Branagh and Marvel Studios’ “Thor,” Wong Kar Wai’s “The Grandmasters” and Fox’s “The Darkest Hour.”
