Film Arcade acquires ‘Simon’

Distrib sets Oct. 12 release date

Newly minted distributor the Film Arcade has acquired U.S. rights to the Swedish feature “Simon and the Oaks,” directed by Lisa Ohlin.

Film Arcade has set an Oct. 12 release for the film in New York and Los Angeles, with additional markets to follow.

The drama, based on the novel by Marianne Fredriksson, is set in rural Sweden in the 1940s and tells the story of a boy from a working class family who befriends a Jewish boy whose family has fled from Germany. Bill Skarsgard, Helen Sjoholm and Jan Josef Liefers star in “Simon,” which has grossed over $4 million at the Swedish box office.

The Film Arcade negotiated the deal with Peter Torkelsson from NonStop Sales.

Distrib previously acquired domestic rights to Sundance film “The Other Dream Team,” which was co-purchased with Lionsgate and is set for fall distribution.
