Ferrell: Busy performer turns up volume

Comedy Impact Report 2012: Film - Will Ferrell

What Will Ferrell’s 2012 lacked in blockbuster success, it made up for in comedy volume. His biggest hit this year was “The Campaign,” which he co-produced with director Jay Roach and longtime collaborator Adam McKay. The election-themed satire grossed a respectable $103 million, nearly all of it domestic. At the other end of the box office spectrum was the eccentric telenovela sendup “Casa de mi padre,” made in Spanish with English-language subtitles, which earned just $8 million, presumably all on curiosity value.

Ferrell also played a car dealer on five episodes of HBO’s “Eastbound and Down,” calling the show, “one of the best comedies out there. To be a guest in the crazy world that Danny McBride and Jody Hill have created has been an absolute joy.” Behind the camera, Ferrell produced “Bachelorette” and “Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie,” explaining, “I enjoy supporting fresh, new comedic voices and producing is one of the ways to do that.”

Next up is the sequel “Anchorman: The Legend Continues,” which Ferrell is writing. “All I can tell you is that it will be shot entirely in English,” he says, anticipating better returns than “Casa.”
