Fellowes to deliver BAFTA/BFI lecture

Frank, Straughan, Morgan, Helgeland get with program

LONDON — The British Academy of Film and Television Arts and the British Film Institute has announced the line-up for their third annual Screenwriter Lecture Series.

The series will launch Sept. 27 with Oscar and Emmy winner Julian Fellowes (“Downton Abbey,” “Gosford Park”), and continue through October.

Other writers in this year’s program will be Oscar nominee Scott Frank (“Out of Sight”), BAFTA winners Peter Straughan (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”) and Abi Morgan (“The Iron Lady”), and Oscar-winner Brian Helgeland (“L.A. Confidential”).

“We want to champion screenwriters as collaborative authors of film, rather than simply adjuncts of the director’s vision,” said screenwriter Jeremy Brock, who programmed the season in his role as a member of BAFTA’s Film Committee.

Past years’ participants have included Charlie Kaufman, Ronald Harwood, Guillermo Arriaga, Aline Brosh McKenna and Paul Laverty.
