'Tango Libre,' 'Citadel,' 'Goal of the Dead' ink raft of deals

Using the tried-and-tested one-two sales punch of Venice and Toronto, France’s Films Distribution has rolled out deals on three of its highest-profile titles: “Tango Libre,” “Citadel” and “Goal of the Dead.”

New sales include deals initiated at Venice and sealed at Toronto, FD partner Nicolas Brigaud-Robert said Saturday as Marina Zenovich’s docu “Roman Polanski: Odd Man Out,” a FD-sold world preem, screened to press and industry here.

On Belgian Frederic Fonteyne’s “Tango Libre,” a prison-set love triangle tale that played Venice Horizons to an upbeat reception, FD has closed Italy (Bolero Films), Brazil (Imovision), Austria (Polyfilm Verleih) and the CIS and Baltic States (Maywin Films).

Meanwhile, Ciaran Foy’s buzzed-about Dublin-set chiller “Citadel,” which world preemed at Austin’s SXSW Festival, winning the Midnighter audience award, has made good on its sales potential, closing the U.K. (Revolver), Latin America (HBO Latin America), Japan (Nettai Museum), India (Viswass Films) plus Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia (Suraya Filem). The Revolver deal was inked at Venice.

Nikkatsu Corp. has taken Japan on “Goal of the Dead,” a zombie soccer bloodbath marking co-director Benjamin Rocher’s follow-up to FD sales phenom “The Horde.” France’s Capture the Flag Films produces, as on “The Horde.”
