Fares joins ‘Keeper of Lost Causes’

Swedish thesp to play policeman in thriller

LONDON–Swedish thesp Fares Fares has been added to the cast of helmer Mikkel Norgaard’s thriller “The Keeper of Lost Causes,” an adaptation of Jussi Adler-Olsen’s bestseller.

Fares will co-star opposite Nikolaj Lie Kaas as his cop partner. The pair get involved in a five-year-old missing woman case that leads them into Scandinavia’s darkest places to find a psychopathic killer.

Screenplay is by Nikolaj Arcel, who wrote the script for the Swedish version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”

“Keeper” is the first in a quartet of films based on Adler-Olsen’s books, planned for release in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Fares and Lie Kaas have signed on for all four pics.

Fares’ breakthrough came with comedies “Jalla! Jalla!” and “Kopps,” before starring in box office hit “Easy Money” and its sequel “Easy Money II.” Fares also appeared opposite Denzel Washington in action thriller “Safe House.”

Among previously announced cast are Sonja Richter and Soren Pilmark.

“Keeper” is produced by Louise Vesth for Zentropa. TrustNordisk handles international sales.
