Thriller marks feature debut of Julius Avery

LONDON

Ewan McGregor is set to star in Australian heist thriller “Son of a Gun.”

Altitude Film Sales handles international sales on the feature debut of director scribe Julius Avery, whose 2008 short “Jerrycan” won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and the Best Short Film award from the Australian Film Institute.

“Son of a Gun” follows the relationship between Australia’s public enemy No. 1, played by McGregor, and his protege.

Timothy White will produce through Southern Light Films, with financing provided by Canada’s Media House Capital and Western Australia’s screen funding and development agency ScreenWest.

The thriller is set to shoot in Australia in early 2013.

Hopscotch/eOne has acquired rights for Australia and New Zealand. UTA Independent Film Group represents the producers in the sale of North American rights.
